Grounded? Yes, please.

When kids screw up and tick off their parents, they are likely to find themselves grounded. And then they complain about it. Boneheads.

I’d love to be grounded. Send me to my room. Take away my phone. Please. Take the computer. No wait, can I keep that? You can have everything else, though. I’m good.

A week? If I smart off, are you going to double it? If I give you the bird, can I get a month?

That’s it. That’s all I want. Just my big, comfy bed and my computer. Oh, just one more thing. I will need some exercise, so can I run out to the yard to swim? I promise not to enjoy it (too much).

Thank you. Thank you so much. Hold on, that’s wrong. What I mean to say is, “Oh, man! That’s so unfair!”

Okay, all better.

  1. Ha! I love this - so true!

Kids just don't know how good they've got it!

  2. exactly. I never got 'grounded' that was a white kid thing. My parents didn't even know what that meant. I got my mom's wrath and extra chores. Which made being 'grounded' sound like a vacation at an all inclusive resort!

  3. I loved being grounded also, being one of 10 it was the only time I could be alone.

  4. @Ivankuiken: They really don't. Someone else works to provide funds for food, shelter, clothes, and entertainment. The little ones even get to take a nap every day!

@Elaine: Noooooo! Not the wrath of Mom!

My mom had a temper at times, but what really killed me was when she'd say that she was disappointed in me. Got me right in the gut.

    @ML: LOL!

  6. The idea of being grounded does sound mighty appealing alright. Just to get away from it all with no demands. Ah, that would be great.

I remember my son getting a paper from public health about needing immunizations updated or he could get expelled. He looked happy at that idea. I'd feel the same way about being grounded.

  8. I never had problems with having to ground my kids. Guess I was lucky.

  9. @Tony: We rarely had to discipline our kids as they were all pretty obedient. A few minor infractions, but nothing to fret much about.

  11. I never really got grounded. I missed out on the fun of getting punished. One of my sisters spent practically her entire childhood on punishment.
hmmmmm. Maybe that's what's wrong with me.

  12. @My favorite Princess Trish Vodka I of New Jersey: My guess is that your mom knew that you already felt crappy enough when you screwed up so she didn't need to pile anything else on.

  16. ok im a kid but i got grounded for the first time but it made me want to do worse stuff i dont know why but i got grounded for not wearing bands on my braces so i guess i want to deserve the punishment

  17. @CHRISAJ: If you don't wear the bands on your braces, does it screw up the braces or make them ineffective? If so, I can see why you'd get punished because braces cost a small fortune. If not, though, maybe you can plead your case. You are, after all, a first time offender. Good luck!
